“The Old Guard”: Netflix’s Latest Film Shot in Marrakesh

Netflix has released exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and clips from the film “The Old Guard”, featuring Charlize Theron. Many of the Afghan and African scenes of the film were shot in Marrakech.

A press release revealed that the shooting in Morocco lasted for about two weeks, with the support of a large local crew who helped the filmmakers and the team with all the necessary help.

The shooting locations in Marrakech included the El Fenn Hotel, the Berber village of Obaki on the Kik Plateau (a region in the Atlas Mountains that also served as an Afghan village), as well as the Jemaa el-Fnaa market, Tamansourt, Harbil, Tayzelt, the Agafay Desert, Boukhriss and Kettara.

It is worth mentioning that Netflix has partnered with local artists to create a localized poster that incorporates the monuments of Morocco into the film. Ahmed Rafaat, the Egyptian artist, redesigned the poster in collaboration with filmmakers to reflect the presence of film stars in Morocco in iconic locations such as the Jemaa el-Fnaa market square.

The film “The Old Guard” tells the story of Andy (Charlize Theron), who leads a secret group of mercenaries who, with a mysterious inability to die, have fought to protect the mortal world for centuries. However, when the team is recruited to undertake an emergency mission, their extraordinary abilities are suddenly exposed. Andy and Nile (Kiki Layne), the last soldier to join their ranks, must help the group to eliminate the threat of those who seek to replicate and monetize their power by any means necessary.

“The Old Guard” is a hard-hitting, action-packed and a well-founded story that shows that living forever is harder than it looks.
