Coronavirus: 313 Cases Recorded in Tangier in 24 Hours, the Latest Results by City

The Ministry of Health announced Saturday that six hundred and ninety-three (693) new cases of Coronavirus infection (Covid-19), as well as 302 cure cases have been recorded in the last 24 hours in Morocco.

This new report brings to the number of infections since the first case reported on March 2 to 25,015 and the number of people fully recovered to 17,960, a recovery rate of 72%, said the head of the division of communicable diseases at the Ministry of Health, Abdelkrim Meziane Belfkih.

The number of deaths rose to 367 after 14 new cases in the last 24 hours, he added, noting that the cumulative incidence rate is 69/100,000 people.

These fourteen deaths occurred in the cities of Tangier (7), Marrakech (3), Casablanca (3) and Fez (1), the official said. He noted that the number of cases excluded after negative laboratory results is 20,881, for a total of 1,248,924 cases.

He also said that the number of contact cases has so far reached 122,144, of which 16,037 cases are currently under medical follow-up, while the reproduction rate (R0) is 1.38, which is higher than the rate recorded in June (0.7).

As for the geographical distribution of the new cases, the official said that 330 cases have been recorded in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region (313 in Tangier, 9 in Tetouan, one case in Larache, 5 in Fahs-Anjra, 1 in Ouazzane and one case in M’diq), 209 in Fez-Meknes (164 in Fez, 16 in Meknes, 7 in Sefrou, 3 in Moulay Yaacoub, 2 in Taounate, 4 in El Hajeb, 3 in Boulmane, 1 case in Ifrane and 9 in Taza), 41 in Casablanca-Settat (30 in Casablanca, 7 in Nouacer and 4 cases in Berrechid) and 13 cases in the Oriental region (1 case in Berkane, 6 in Jerrada, 1 case in Figuig, 3 in Guercif and 2 in Oujda).

The other regions that detected new cases are Marrakech-Safi with 13 cases (all in Marrakech), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (80 cases, including 27 in Salé, 24 in Rabat, 4 in Témara, 23 in Sidi Kacem, one case in Kénitra and another in Sidi Slimane), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (5 cases in Béni Mellal), Drâa-Tafilalet (2 cases). The regions of Souss-Massa, Dakhla-Oued Eddahab, Guelmim-Oued Noun and Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra did not record any new cases.

With regard to active cases, Mr. Belfkih said that 6,688 people are currently under treatment in hospitals, of whom 88 are in critical condition. These people are distributed among the regions of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (2,012), Casablanca-Settat (1,660), Fez-Meknes (1. 634), Marrakech-Safi (608), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (409), Eastern (108), Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (48), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (81) Drâa-Tafilalet (83), Souss-Massa (32 cases), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (10 cases) and Guelmim-Oued Noun (3 cases).

For those in critical condition, he reported 88 cases admitted to the intensive care and resuscitation units, 14 of which were intubated. These cases are distributed among the regions of Casablanca-Settat (25), Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (25), Marrakech-Safi (19), Fez-Meknes (10), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (7 cases) and Souss-Massa with two cases.

At the same time, the Ministry of Health called for the need to respect preventive measures to stop the spread of Covid-19. These include physical distancing, hand washing, restriction of travel, and the mandatory wearing of protective masks.
