In the wake of the public outcry over price increases in the bakery-pastry sector, the National Federation of Consumer Associations (FNAC) was quick to issue a call to order.
On Tuesday, the National Federation of Consumer Associations reassured citizens that it is closely monitoring the rise in bread prices which has been a source of controversy recently, saying that an investigation will be conducted to identify professionals, associations and federations that take advantage of the instability of prices on the Moroccan market to inflate the cost of bread.
The National Federation of Bakers and Confectioners (FNBP) in Morocco explained these increases by the rise in international raw material prices, as well as by climate change and drought in several countries. However, given the lack of consultation, the FNAC considered this announcement of increases to be illegal as it violates law 104-12 on freedom of prices and competition.
FNAC has therefore referred the matter to the President of the Competition Council in order to find an optimal solution.
“We ask you, Mr. President, in your legal capacity, to open an investigation into this calamity and to take all measures likely to dissuade any practitioner of premeditated acts, the purpose of which is or may be to hinder fair competition,” it says.
