After the year of challenges, comes the year of meeting them. The first two months of the current year, the automotive market shows a decline of 5.5% compared to the same period of 2021, says the Association of Motor Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM).
In detail, by segment, the number of new registrations of private vehicles (VP) amounted to 23,075 units, down 4.73%, while that of light commercial vehicles (LCV) amounted to 2,861 units (-11.29%). Renault increased its sales by 90.58% to 587 units (20.52% market share), while Opel recorded a spectacular increase in sales of 670% to 77 units (2.69% market share).
The DFSK brand’s sales fell by 41.05% to 415 units and Ford’s by 3.2% to 393 vehicles (13.74% market share). In terms
of premium car sales, Audi sold 700 units with a market share of 3.03%, ahead of Mercedes with 495 units (2.15%) and BMW with 318 vehicles (1.38%).
Leader of the sales of sales in 2021, the brand “Dacia” dominates the segment of the VP, with a market share of 26%, that is to say 6.000 new registrations at the end of February 2021, followed by Renault which sold 3.410 new units (market share of 14,78%), Hyundai (2.596 units and 11,25% in market share) and Peugeot (2.042 vehicles and share of 8,85%)
Luxury cars are no exception to the rule. Porsche sales fell by 24.66% to 55 vehicles and Jaguar by 35% to 13 units.
