Morocco: nurses and health technicians raise their voices

The Independent Union of Nurses and Health Technicians has revealed that it has decided to raise the tone against the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, through the programming of a battery of new protest demonstrations.

Thus, in a statement, the Union announced the stoppage of work in any hospital lacking an essential equipment or suffering from significant malfunctions and report it so that the Ministry of supervision assumes its responsibilities. Similarly, nurses and health technicians will not perform any analysis in the absence of a biological prescription duly initialed by an officially recognized physician.

The nurses have also decided not to participate in all activities, related to the visits of the Minister of Health and Welfare, whose sole purpose is to “appear” and embellish a dull image. Instead, such activities will be met with sit-ins and protests, according to the concerned.

Any task related to the nursing profession and not respecting the necessary sanitary conditions, safety and equipment will not be performed in order to preserve the health of the patient, said the aforementioned statement. This refusal and its causes should be the subject of an administrative report against health centers that provide medical care in the absence of the services of a doctor on site.

The Independent Union of Nurses and Health Technicians also stressed that all kinds of protest movements will be organized at the national, regional and local levels throughout the holy month of Ramadan, with various nightly sit-ins, among other events.
