Fuel price increase in Morocco

These demands mainly concern the acceleration of the legal and regulatory framework of the diesel index in order to control price fluctuations and adopt indexation.

The search for practical solutions to the problem of payment of loan installments and approvals, are also among the claims, given the current situation of the contractualization of transport with determination of the reference cost and the revision of professional diesel, says the Federation in a statement.

The FNTM says that its decision comes in a context of unprecedented increase in fuel prices at the national level and its impact on the cost of transport, which threatens the national transport companies and undermines their competitiveness and their ability to continue their activities.

While the government is providing exceptional support to road workers, this approach has many shortcomings that prevent it from mitigating the negative effects of transport outsourcing, the same source adds.

The Federation stresses, in this context, that the high cost of fuel as well as the fees associated with road transport contracts threaten them with bankruptcy.

The federation’s demands come days after the Moroccan government announced the launch of a financial support program to mitigate the effects of rising fuel prices on transport operators. Beneficiaries of the scheme are professionals operating in the public transport, tourism, transit, goods transport, school transport and personnel sectors.

The government measures were implemented in response to the national protest of passenger and freight transport operators.
