Opposition parties call on government to control fuel prices

Opposition parties in the House of Representatives called Saturday for the institutionalization of social dialogue and the use of their powers of intervention to control prices, including fuel prices, and mitigate the impact of fluctuations in the international market.

In a statement, the opposition parties called on the government of Aziz Akhannouch to be attentive to society, noting the importance of institutionalizing social dialogue and stressing the need to take the necessary measures, tangible and coordinated to activate the social priorities of the current situation, protect the purchasing power of citizens and support the national company facing risks of bankruptcy, and also called on it to use its powers of intervention to control prices, especially fuel prices, and mitigate the impact of fluctuations in the international market.

While the government has warned against the danger of its excessive tendency to hegemony and intimidation with a narrow numerical logic at the expense of resorting to a democratic and consensual logic dedicated to the constant democratic choice, urging it to cooperate and integrate with the legislative institution in general, treat positively the initiatives of the opposition, strengthen political pluralism, and preserve the institutional balance .

The statement of the opposition parties came after the leaders of the opposition groups in the House of Representatives, composed of the Socialist team, the Progress and Socialism team and the Parliamentary Group for Justice and Development, concluded a series of meetings that brought them together with the top leaders of their parties, which continued on Thursday and Friday, May 12 and 13, 2022.

The meeting took place with Driss Lachgar of the Socialist Union of Popular Forces, Mohand Laenser, Secretary General of the Popular Movement Party, Nabil Benabdellah, Secretary General of the Progress and Socialism Party, and Abdelilah Benkirane, Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party.
