Morocco: lawyers suspend their strike

The Moroccan Bar Association announced the suspension of the strike observed by the Kingdom’s lawyers for a period of 2 weeks. This decision comes after a meeting on Tuesday with the Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch.

The executive office of the Association said in a statement, a copy of which is held by Le Site Info, that an emergency meeting was held in the presence of the Head of Government in Rabat, and the Minister of Tutelle, Abdellatif Ouahbi. The meeting focused on certain provisions of the Draft Finance Act 2023 (PLF 2023).

The Association indicates in its press release that an agreement has been reached on the claims of lawyers. It was thus decided to review downward the taxation of lawyers in the framework of the PLF 2023, from 300 to 100 dirhams, a tax amnesty of 5 years for lawyers newly registered with the courts of the Kingdom (from the date of registration), the inclusion of new files of a social nature and rights in the list of prepaid cases, review downward the rate of taxation at source for individual lawyers from 15% to 10% and 5% instead of 10% for companies.

One of the other measures adopted during this meeting was the establishment of a technical committee between the Government and the Association, whose mission will be to monitor and address the issue of taxation for the function.
