A huge fire broke out on Thursday evening, following several explosions of gas tanks in Mohammedia. The emergency services of the civil protection were quick to go to the scene to contain the flames. Last night, the city of Mohammedia has experienced moments of great concern following a succession of explosions caused by a fire described as “dangerous” in some gas storage. The explosions occurred in the gas site of “the Cliff”, an area near the port of the city.
Videos filmed by eyewitnesses show the scene of the explosion, which caused terror among the inhabitants of the surrounding buildings. According to sources at the scene, the accident began with a sudden leakage of gas, before it, through some contact with fire, turned into large flames rising into the sky. They also said that the residents of Marsa began in the early evening to call for help because of the smell of foul gas that was spreading at full speed.
Even as the security and civil protection authorities mobilized their agents to curb the fire, explosions rang out and the fire doubled in size and scope. Contacted by L’Opinion two hours later, the elements of civil protection said that the fire was controlled to 70% around 21:00, and 90% a few moments later, then completely extinguished.
