Bank data hacking: Six suspects arrested

According to a security source, the six suspects were arrested during simultaneous operations in the cities of Laayoune, Casablanca and Agadir, after computer forensics showed their involvement in hacking bank data, theft and damage to automated data processing systems.

It is reported that the defendants have carried out fraudulent bank transfers having targeted, at this stage of the investigations, dozens of victims.

Thus, the individuals arrested have used a modus operandi that consists in the use of an information server “phishing”, which sends fraudulent messages to customers of bank branches.

The latter ask them to send their account statements to a fake site similar to the official site of a banking institution. Once the data is collected, it is used to withdraw money in an illicit way.

The same source revealed in this wake that the searches conducted in this context have resulted in the seizure of many computer equipment, namely cell phones and electronic devices.

These objects have been subjected to the necessary digital expertise in the laboratory of analysis of digital and technological traces under the national security. The defendants are subject to judicial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor to determine all the criminal acts committed and reveal other possible victims.
