National Airports Authority: Air traffic increase in February 2023

In a note made public, the National Office of Airports (ONDA) says that the volume of commercial traffic of the Kingdom’s airports reached 1,871,095 passengers in February 2023, up 11% compared to the same month in 2019. According to the Office, these airports recorded 14,432 airport movements last February, a recovery rate of 98% compared to the same period in 2019. Thus, the airport Casablanca Mohammed V welcomed 636,989 passengers via 5,410 flights, or recovery rates of about 99% and 88% respectively, compared to the same period of 2019, the same source said.

During February, several airports have recorded double-digit growth rates, compared to the traffic recorded during the same period of 2019. These are the airports of Tangier (49%), Oujda (48%), Agadir (19%), Nador (16%), Marrakech (15%), and Essaouira (13%). Meanwhile, several airports have recorded significant recovery rates, including Casablanca Mohammed V (99%), Ouarzazate (99%), Dakhla (95%) and Al Hoceima (90%).

Domestic air traffic recorded, during the month of February, 179,406 passengers, with a recovery rate of 93% compared to the same period in 2019. International air traffic has, for its part, recorded 1,691,689 passengers during the same month, an evolution of about 13% compared to February 2019.

Europe represents more than 84% of international traffic and recorded a double-digit growth rate (+17%) compared to February 2019. Similarly, air traffic with North America has seen a growth rate of around 52%. As for the markets of the Middle and Far East and Africa, they have recorded respective rates of evolution of 4% and 2% compared to February 2019. Also, the ONDA said that the air freight recorded 5,743 tons during the month of February, a recovery rate of 79%.
