An official of the rank of sheikh and a member of the Auxiliary Forces, involved in a case of corruption, were arrested on Tuesday September 12 by members of the Arekmane Royal Gendarmerie in the Nador prefecture.
A resident of the rural commune of Al Barkanyene had reported them to the public prosecutor’s hotline, and had been found guilty of violating town planning laws. In order to clear him of this offence, the two officers, from the Authority and Auxiliary Forces, demanded a bribe. The two crooked officials found themselves surrounded by gendarmes when they came to meet the complainant. They were held in police custody before being brought before the public prosecutor.
