Coronavirus in Morocco: King Mohammed VI Presides over a Working Session

King Mohammed VI chaired, on Tuesday at the Royal Palace in Casablanca, a working session devoted to monitoring the management of the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic in our country and to continue to take measures to address any developments, says a statement of the Royal Cabinet.

This meeting is part of the ongoing monitoring by His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, of the evolution of this epidemic, from the beginning of its spread on a global scale and immediately after the first cases appear on the national territory.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Majesty the King asked the Minister of Health about the latest developments in the health situation in our country, the capacity of hospitals and health units in the various regions of the Kingdom and the measures taken to meet all health security needs, including disinfection products and medicines.

On the basis of the data presented by the Minister of Health, and on the basis of the concern of His Majesty the King, may God preserve Him, to raise the capacity of the national health system to cope with this pandemic, the Sovereign, may God preserve Him, Supreme Chief and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), has given His High Instructions to the Inspector General of the FAR, to make the equipped health structures, whose creation had been previously ordered by the Sovereign in the different regions of the Kingdom for this purpose, available to the health system with all its components, if necessary.

This Royal High Initiative is part of the proactive approach which the Sovereign has ordered to be adopted since the emergence of this pandemic and the strengthening of the unprecedented preventive measures taken by the sectors and institutions concerned to limit its spread and deal with its health, economic and social consequences.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the stages of implementation of the measures that have been taken on the high directives of His Majesty the King and which concern the closure of Moroccan air and sea space to travelers and the cancellation of gatherings and sporting, cultural and artistic events, the establishment of a special fund for the management of the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), the suspension of classes in schools and universities, the temporary closure of mosques, the suspension of hearings in the various courts of the Kingdom, in addition to a series of measures taken by the competent authorities in the field of public transport and the closure of unnecessary public spaces.

His Majesty the King, may God assist him, has given His directives to the competent authorities to ensure the proper implementation of efficient measures to ensure the supply of markets throughout the national territory with food and consumer products, hygiene and disinfection products on a regular and permanent basis and to combat all forms of speculation and price increases.

In the same context, His Majesty the King has given his High Instructions to the Head of Government and all the departments concerned to take all necessary measures and to prepare for a new stage if necessary.

The meeting took place in the presence of the Head of Government, Mr. Saad Dine El Otmani, the Minister of the Interior, Mr. Abdelouafi Laftit, the Minister of Health, Mr. Khalid Ait Taleb, Lieutenant General Abdelfattah El Ouarak, Inspector General of the FAR, Lieutenant General Mohamed Haramou, Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie and the Director General of National Security, Director General of National Territorial Surveillance, Mr. Abdellatif Hammouchi”.
