National Security: New Arrest for Broadcasting “Fake News”

Elements of the Judicial Police Brigade of the Regional Security Police Station in Kasbat Tadla arrested a 34-year-old individual on Tuesday for his alleged involvement in the recording and broadcasting of an audio tape containing false data on a suspected case of infection by the new Coronavirus.

The National Security said in a statement that the police had reacted seriously and promptly to the audio recording, in which the suspect claims that a Moroccan citizen residing abroad was circulating in the city of Kasbat Tadla despite his contamination by the new Coronavirus.

Initially, the identity of the supposedly infected citizen, who shows no symptoms of illness, was identified, before then proceeding to the arrest of the person involved in the recording of this false audio and its dissemination on social networks, says the National Security.

The accused was placed in police custody at the disposal of the judicial investigation ordered by the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to clarify the circumstances of the publication of this false rumor likely to undermine the safety and security of citizens, the press release states.
