Coronavirus: Awareness-Raising Extends to Rural Areas

As part of the efforts of the authorities in different regions of Morocco to stop the spread of Coronavirus, local authorities in the Fez-Meknes region have extended awareness campaigns to the rural areas. Several teams composed of of police, gendarmerie and auxiliary forces have mobilized to call on citizens in remote villages and communes not to underestimate the seriousness of the situation.

They urged them, via loudspeakers, to stay in their homes, to respect the recommendations of the authorities broadcast by radio and television and to follow strict hygiene measures on a daily basis. Information and awareness-raising campaigns were conducted in the provinces of Taza and Taounat. The services concerned criss-crossed streets and avenues and conducted visits to places where people gathered to warn unsuspecting citizens of the risks to which they were exposed.

The daily Al Massae reported in its Saturday 21 March edition that law enforcement officers carried out patrols using loudspeakers to urge the population to stop the gatherings and refrain from leaving their homes to prevent the spread of the virus. These awareness-raising campaigns in small rural localities in the above-mentioned provinces have made it possible to limit gatherings in certain crowded places.

The same sources call for more such operations to be carried out in the most remote areas of the Kingdom. These campaigns are an effective means of raising public awareness. The same sources call for the launching of a campaign on social networks entitled “Stay home, save your life and protect your country”.
