“Despite the unique circumstances imposed by Covid-19, export activities are being maintained and are taking place under good conditions while complying with strict safety and hygiene measures,” says a statement from the Department of Agriculture.
Exports of market garden products have reached, during this agricultural season, on April 14, 2020, a volume of about 876,000 tons, recording a growth of 3% compared to the previous season, which ended on the same date at 848,900 tons.
Concerning red fruits, exports have recorded “a strong growth during this campaign, with a volume of about 68,400 tons as of April 14, 2020, recording a growth of 27% compared to the previous period on the same date (54,000 tons),” said the release.
For the Ministry of Agriculture, the export of watermelons also recorded a good performance, rising from 5,900 tonnes to 11,900 tonnes, as well as melon, whose export is characterized by an improvement in this season, around +18%.
On the other hand, says the press release, “citrus fruits have shown a decline of around 30% due to the drop in production” for the 2019-2020 agricultural season. Nevertheless, the document adds, “the value of exports remains at a good level, thanks to good prices on international markets.
Regarding sea products, the volume exported during the deep-sea fishing season, as of 14 April 2020, is about 496,400 tons, against 481,200 tons during the same period of the previous campaign, a growth of about 3%.
