When Khalid Ait Taleb was appointed about six months ago as Minister of Health in the second government team of Saad-Eddine El Othmani, he had no idea that he would become the most important member of the government, given the Coronavirus pandemic that Morocco, like all countries around the world, is facing. He has thus become the most sought-after personality in the media for interviews or even brief statements on the state of the spread of the virus in Morocco, the number of victims, the treatment available and so on.
Khalid Ait Taleb was born in Agadir, the capital of Souss, in 1966. As one of the most distinguished medical experts in Morocco, he joined a group of experts within the Ministry of Health, even before he was appointed head of that department. Everyone unanimously agrees that he is an excellent surgeon and a rigorous manager. It is for this reason that he was appointed to join the El Othmani government during the cabinet reshuffle in which his predecessor, Anas Doukkali, stepped down. As a result, he took over a number of difficult and sensitive issues, in particular the series of protests and strikes by health professionals, which troubled the government for months.
Technocratic and little-known, Khalid Ait Taleb is not affiliated to any political party, just as he remains attached to his profession as a doctor and teacher, since he is mainly a surgeon and university professor.

Khalid Ait Taleb obtained his doctorate in medicine at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy in Rabat. In 2014, he was appointed director of the Hassan II University Hospital Center in Fez, where he managed the department of Internal Surgery for years. In 2016, he was appointed head of the Alliance of University Hospitals of Morocco and then head of the Board of Directors of the Cancer Research Institute.
As one of Morocco’s medical experts, he was appointed to the position of Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, replacing Hicham Najmi, and subsequently to the position of Minister of Health.
