Jewish Artist: The Offbeat World of Noam Chojnowski

Pop-up TLV, 1 Lilienblum st., Tel Aviv, June 19-27, 2019.

Noam Chojnowski is a Franco-Israeli artist. He has been living in Jerusalem for several years. He likes to capture incongruous situations that give his photographs a surrealist character. The banality of everyday life is metamorphosed in theatrical settings.

The universe is always out of sync. According to art critic Chana Corinne Devor, Critique d’art “a more Israeli trend in surrealist photography: A robot on a trampoline or two people in bathing suits facing each other in a municipal swimming pool reflect this Israeli trend. »

The artist creates zany stories every time. The interweaving works in an intelligent imbalance that locks nothing. Imbued with haunting and possession and various reminders of the history of cinema and photography. In such images there is a particular and funny breath.
