The Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports reacted to the publication of a false communiqué attributed to it, announcing the revocation of the French language in primary school. In a clarification, the Department of Chakib Benmoussa categorically denied these “Fake news”. The false communiqué, it should be recalled, has been widely circulated on the Internet and on WhatsApp groups.
In this clarification, the ministry recalled that official communiqués are published via its official portal and its pages on social networks.
Indeed, the fake document announced that the French language will be cancelled from the next school year. It also announced that English will replace French as the first foreign language.
These rumours seem to agitate the desires of Moroccans who are sympathetic to the language of Shakespeare. A British Council survey showed that a majority of young people prefer English to French.
