Conference on the Central Role of Jews in the Development of Moroccan Civilization

Participants in the conference “Literature, Thought, Culture and Arts” underlined the cohesion that exists between the various components of Moroccan society, regardless of their religious or ethnic affiliation, and underlined the central role that has been played by Moroccan Jews in the consolidation and development of Moroccan civilization, in its various manifestations.

Participants in this event, organized as part of the third edition of the Casablanca Cultural Festival, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, under the theme “the indelible imprint of Jewish Moroccans on the influence of Moroccan civilization: history and scope”, stressed the undeniable involvement of Moroccan Jews in the influence of Moroccan civilization.

Thinkers and academics from various backgrounds have highlighted the remarkable presence of this community through its various cultural, artistic and scientific contributions, as well as through its socio-economic contribution, since the beginning of the 20th century, and the fact that they contributed to the liberation movement, the defense of the national cause and the building of the foundations of a modern political, social and cultural life in Morocco.

Some interventions highlighted the considerable contributions of the Moroccan Jewish element to Moroccan heritage, culture and civilization, including the common human heritage relating to Andalusian Moroccan music, whose elaboration, development and preservation over 12 centuries, in its melodic and poetic dimensions, have been ensured, among other actors, by Jewish Moroccans.

This event, which was organized as an initiative of the Association of Former Students of Greater Casablanca in partnership with the City Council, the Council of the Casablanca-Settat Region and the Regional Delegation of Islamic Affairs of the Casablanca-Settat Region, Concluded with a visit to some places of worship, such as the Hassan II Mosque, the Beth-El Synagogue and the Casablanca Church.

It should be recalled that the previous edition of this regional festival was organized last February in Casablanca under the theme “the contribution of Amazigh Jews and their influence on the Moroccan cultural mosaic”.
