Egypt, Guest of Honor at the Meknes International Animation Film Festival

Under the high patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Meknes will host, on March 25th, the 19th edition of the Meknes International Animation Film Festival, organized by the Aicha Foundation in partnership with the French Institute of Meknes.

The event, which attracts more than 30,000 animated film enthusiasts every year, this year celebrates the 85th anniversary of the release of the first Egyptian and African animated film, just as it celebrates Egypt as guest of honor.

Thus, the film “The Knight and the Princess” will be presented at the opening, in the presence of the Saudi producer Abbas ben El Abbas, and the Egyptian writer and director Bachir Eddik, who is considered one of the most outstanding Egyptian directors. He is the author of films such as “Awafan” and “Sikkat Safar”. He has also worked with renowned directors such as Ashraf Fahmy, for whom he wrote the screenplay of the film “With premeditation”, and Atef Tayeb, for whom he wrote the screenplay of the film “The Bus Driver” and “Against the Government”.

The festival will also present a panorama of Egyptian cinema, as well as an exhibition dedicated to the Frankel brothers, the pioneers of Egyptian animated cinema, whose filmography will be highlighted on this occasion, and this since the 1930s, when the character “Mich Mich affendi” was developed. Thus, the festival audience will have the opportunity to discover films such as “Mafich fayda” 1936; “Addifae al watani” 1939; “Bilhana et chifae” 1946.

The festival will also present an exceptional exhibition, including rare documents of inestimable value, tracing the history of animation cinema in Egypt.
