Airbnb CEO: Travelling ” Will Never Be the Same Again”

Global travel “may never fully recover” from the Coronavirus pandemic, said Airbnb CEO and co-founder Brian Chesky, predicting instead more domestic travel by tourists to reach smaller communities.

“I would officially say that the trips will never be the same as they were before Covid-19″, Chesky told Axios in an interview published on Sunday. “Sometimes decades of changes happen in a matter of months,” he said.

According to the Airbnb CEO, business travel will be particularly badly damaged by the current pandemic. “I think a lot of people are going to realize that they don’t need to fly to a meeting. I mean, I met you in an office, but now we’re on Zoom,” he said. Chesky explained that people ” aren’t getting on planes” to cross borders, but rather travel by car to “places that are 350 kilometres or less away”.

“People will, one day, get back on planes,” noted Airbnb’s CEO. “But one of the things I think is a fairly definitive change is… a shift in the destination of travelers.”

Chesky also said he sees a potential boom for the national parks as the culture around travel evolves.
