Large-Scale Production of a 100% Moroccan PCR Test

The startup MOLDIAG, created by the MAScIR Foundation, has launched the large-scale production of a 100% Moroccan Covid-19 PCR test after having obtained, in May 2020, the national and international validations of its diagnostic kit for Sars-CoV2/Covid-19.

The kit has already received an initial order of 100,000 units from the Ministry of Health, said Thursday a statement from the Moroccan Foundation for Advanced Science, Innovation and Research (MAScIR). It added that after obtaining national and international validations, the major challenge for MOLDIAG, a start-up subsidiary of the MAScIR Foundation, a research and development center, was to launch “urgently” its industrial production unit. With this in mind, MOLDIAG has accelerated its equipment and instrumentation for large-scale production as it completed on June 30, 2020, on a trial basis, the laboratory production of 10,000 diagnostic tests for Sars-CoV2/Covid-19, which were delivered to the public authorities.

With the product registration certificate, issued by the Ministry of Health on 21 July 2020, MOLDIAG can now produce and market its kit, with a production capacity of 1 million diagnostic tests per month.

The Ministry of Health has placed an initial order for 100,000 tests, and MOLDIAG is committed to meeting its new requirements as well as those of the public authorities under the best possible conditions.

As for the market availability of the MAScIR Kit of Sars-CoV2/Covid-19, discussions are underway with potential local distributors. This national innovation will thus provide Moroccan laboratories with a competitively priced diagnostic kit, which will increase the screening capacity needed since the resurgence of Coronavirus cases in Morocco, according to the same source.

This 100% Moroccan test has been subjected to a series of validation processes in national and international biological and virological reference centers, which have proven its effectiveness and reliability. At the end of these trials, this test has obtained the validation of approved national and foreign laboratories, including the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie and the Pasteur Institute of Paris, thus placing it at the same level as tests used internationally, says the statement.

MAScIR is a Moroccan foundation which was created in 2007. Its purpose is to promote and develop research and development centers in Morocco to meet the country’s needs in advanced technologies, particularly in the field of medical biology.
